HART (Human Anti-Trafficking Response Team) and Women’s College Hospital Nears $3M Goal and Launched First-of-Its-Kind Program – Help Raise the Final $150k
HART is proud to partner with Women’s College Hospital Foundation as the founding supporter of one of Canada’s leading initiatives supporting survivors of sex trafficking in healthcare settings.
Eighty percent of survivors interact with the healthcare system while being trafficked, often at a critical moment when intervention is possible. Far too often they go unseen – their experiences unrecognized, their urgent needs unmet.
We are deeply grateful to the generous donors who helped raise nearly $3 million for a first-of-its-kind research program addressing the harms caused by human trafficking. The ASTER program at Women’s College Hospital will create a national evidence base to develop, deliver and educate healthcare professionals – equipping them to recognize signs of trafficking and provide appropriate support.
This work will transform how the healthcare system delivers care and shape government policy, driving meaningful, long-term change for young girls, women, and gender-diverse individuals experiencing human trafficking across Canada.

On April 4th, Women’s College Hospital hosted the next episode of their webinar series. In this episode, Ph.D. candidate Rhonelle Bruder discussed how sex trafficking is taking place in every corner of the country, yet little research has been done on when or why it happens — or how best to support survivors. Through her research at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health and Women’s College Research Institute, she is hoping to change that.
